It seems like a good idea. I understand the freeloaders situation as well. I think that id a haunt is smart enough, they ask in advance, what are you going to do for the haunt in terms of review, show us some legit materials of proof of what you do and so on. (i.e. R.F.R. we leave behind materials for haunts to hand out so people know where to hear the review, we do promotions for the haunts, have press passes on hand, Business Cards and also have talked with events very far before the season go going to arrange visits.

I think a scam review site can be spotted out easily since they hound at the last minute and show up with a ton of people and such and you can pretty tell they are there to get in for free. Descretion is always needed in those situations.

I think that if a haunt feels like too many reviewrs are covering their event and getting nothing in return, they should be smart enough to know when enough is enough.

I like the idea of the site and wish you best of luck with it.

You have your plate full. New video site, reviewer site, those are going to take soem good amout of time to get going.

Plus, I have help We have had over 20 groups claiming to be haunt reviewers this year. And it's really #&$^$ us off when we have 800+ in line and they want Express passes for free so they can "review" our haunt.

It's time for this to end.

All you have to do is pay for my flights (from the UK), hotels, limos, meals plus all other expenses inlcuding the cost of my personal butler, dresser and gimp.

I will write you a first class review of at least 100 words on handmade 100% linen and watermaked paper which will carry both my signature and stamp for superlative prestige. This will be ready for framing and display at your haunt entrance.

All accomodation and transportation must be first class of course.

We have had the exact same problem this season. Seems like everyone is a professional haunt review site, like that is supposed to mean something. I mean, they post links to your websites, but what good is that if their opinion of your show is a bad one. What if they come through on a bad night, actors sick, rough groups tearing stuff apart. And they ALL want something out of it. We actually got an e-mail from a review site listing demands we had to meet in order for them to review our show. "Due to the cost of fuel", it said. Do they think haunt owners fly to work? Flap our wings like Vampires in the night?? They need some kind of restitution for all of their hard work cutting and pasting a link on their website. Our site has had more referrals from some jackass who broke into our old building and took a bunch of photos than it ever has from any haunt review site. Another thing to consider is that these folks are jaded. Sort of like us haunters. We can go through a show, good or bad, and we can almost always come away with some new idea or something good about it, but we are not easily scared or startled. These people are not your average customer. They're near impossible to scare and they set their standards much higher than the average joe. It makes for a biased review.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that their opinions are tainted because they've been going to shows for so long. They'll point out a flaw such as "cheaply painted walls" where as your paying customers don't care what the walls look like because they're so scared of whats hiding around the next corner. If you do make them buy tickets, they complain about the price, even when it's the same as all the other shows in the area. They contradict themselves and sound completely ridiculous most of the time. The same review site reviewed our show last year when we opened for a sneak peek in July. IN JULY! The show wasn't even finished. In their review, they complained that not a lot had changed from the previous season, and then went on to complain that a small section of the show HAD changed. It was because that was a part THEY liked. The reviews are based on opinion and not expertise or knowledge. I wish there was a way to avoid them all together. All the good reviews in the world can't make up for one bad one, especially when you're in a new location. And still they have the nerve to act like they provide a service to someone.

Anyone have any ideas? There is that whole free speech thing, but there has to be a way to discredit these idiots so that real customers know to come see the show for themselves.

Maybe instead of a haunt association, This should be a ratings website for the public then. Maybe this is what needs to happen vs. the qualified reviewers.

You have a great point. Reviewers like to get picky when touring your haunt whereas the average customer wouldn't care.

I am just tired of the "freebies" that "so-called" reviewers try to get.
