  • Looking for vendor from Transworld

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone here can remember the name of a vendor who was at Vegas TW. They sold FX lighting, they sold these LED spotlights that are pretty cool and I can't remember their name. They also had LED strobe and black lights along with lasers and DJ equipment. Thanks for your help

I know that Screamline Studios had some mini LED spotlights. Is this what you are talking about?

Here's a link to their website:

YES!!! it's Northern FX. Thanks so much, it's been bugging me trying to figure out the name. I wanted to get a few spotlights from them for my morgue room I'm building.

A word of advice on the LED's though. DONT hook them up to a dimmer! I found out the hard way that it will ruin them fast lol. When you call them (888)660-6696 ask for Jeff. He has never done me wrong! VERY highly recommended. Great product and service. No I dont work there lol. Greg

What kind of dimmer did you hook them to? You should be able to do it without any adverse affects...

Scott, to dim them you need modify the drivers, electronics. They are not light bulbs, they are diodes!! The simplest way is to buy a sheet of Nuetral Density material, it comes in 3, 6, and 9. You can cut little circles to go over the light, these are like theatrical gels but don't change the color.
Listen to them, Children of the night. Oh what music they make.

Matt- Most dimmers use PWM to dim things, which works for diodes too. The LED is just turning on and off really fast, but because of the way our eyes/brains work we perceive lower duty cycle=dimmer. The main difference is that an incandescent light takes a while to cool down when the power is removed between pulses so the on-off-on gets filled in but an LED will look like it is flickering if you don't pulse it fast enough.

I was just wondering how you were dimming them that would cause failure of the LED. Did you hook a transformer between the LED and the dimmer? Most dimmers don't like inductive loads so that could have caused weirdness...

Good topic. I'm thinking maybe we should start another thread though instead of hijacking this one...
