  • Transworld Chicago

Am I the only one that is disappointed that Transworld is back in Vegas next year? I have attended Transworld in both Chicago and Vegas and and to be honest, Chicago was 10X better than Vegas. There were more vendors, a better atomosphere, and overall a much better experience. First of all at Chicago, we didn't have to walk a half a mile to get into the tradeshow, secondly, everyone congregated at one place afterhours in one spot which was fun and relaxing. It was cold and it snowed but we had a ball. Also, everything was cheaper, from the airline tickets to the hotel rooms. In turn, we had more money to spend at the show. Anybody else feel the same?

I'm right there with you! I didn't go to Vegas so I can't make the comparison, but from all the complaints that I saw from vendors and attendees, it seemed that Chicago was a better option overall - it was great for all of those other years... in my opinion the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" would have worked here... at least for the haunter side.

      Vegas

Vegas is a tourist attraction so naturally everything is going to be priced high. Chicago is in the middle of the country and not a tourist city. We did get snowed in last year, but that just added to the memories. Vegas is a nice place, but Transworld vendors had to compete with the casinos. In Chicago, there was only one thing to do during show hours, go to the show. After hours, go to the Crown.

I do NOT want to go back to VEGAS! I might NOT buy a booth next year. The costs are too high, I spent about 70% of what we made on costs.

We actually do more business on line or direct with the clients than we do at any and all tradeshows combined. We do not go to tradeshows any more to promote our Halloween Productions, because everyone already knows about us and knows how to contact us.

We only go to Halloween shows to promote Hauntworld, and well if you don't already know about it you're living in space. Our main competition (HauntedHouse.com) didn't attend either, so why should we? We sold 90% of all of our banners prior to the show, or just over email or the net.

This is not a rip on TW, I just can't see going back and spending all that money and being tied to the show for several days. I think I'd rather go to the show like everyone else and just see what is going on and come home.

I don't know yet but many companies now thrive without going to tradeshows, look at Unit 70, and I know some are going to say this or that but Scareparts couldn't be busier than he is right now believe it or not and he didn't do any tradeshows.

I will go to Transworld for sure... just not sure if our company will take a booth at any Halloween shows anymore.

But I do NOT want to go to Vegas as an exhibitor. I want a haunted house only show in the Midwest, central midwest or in Orlando. Orlando is cheap, and its a right to work state, so people like Scarefactory can bring in their own gear.

I have heard though Transworld is trying to fix the drayage costs to help the haunt owners come back to Vegas but who knows how much that will help. That is a long trip for shipping, and the costs for staying there was just way to high for my tastes.

I love Transworld and I love Vegas as a city but not for a tradeshow...at least not anymore.

I also do not favor Chicago either, its a Union state/city, and just too damn cold and if you ask me too boring. I guess what I'm really saying is you can't make anyone happy so what the hell just go back to Vegas.

It's prety obvious that you plan on having your own show, why don't you just come out and say it.

I am thinking what your thinking as well. Larry you know I just cant let you plug ScareParts without asking if Keith is so busy why have I not been paid? I dont think its fair that you give him a plug and no one else can say anything. Larry do you think this is fair? I have pretty much not said anything because you made it clear you did not want to hear anymore. But you can come here and plug ScareParts while there are several still owed including myself. As far as Unit70 Bo and Brady deserve to be busy as well as many other of the honest hard working companies. I will print this this morning like all of my post in case I need it in the future. I know this will get removed but I think I have asked a very fair question. Shane

              Larry...

ROSEMONT is boring CHICAGO is not. There is plenty to do in the city the problem is it is generally to cold when the convention is going on for most people to jump on the subway head to the big city. I have been into the city EVERYTIME I have been to Transworld and not been bored once. If you can't find something to do in Chicago I will gladly give you some suggestions. I brave the weather but I can definately see others not wanting to. That being said I also think we should move the show to a more centralized city though, I think that would be beneficial to everyone.

                Nut,

I am not doing my own show. I might help someone else do a show but I'm not doing the show. I hope that clears that up for you.

Shane, as you love to do, which is change the subject matters of threads, and usually always leads back to Scareparts... look at this point you two have some issues with each other. I have no idea why you haven't been paid and frankly at this point it's only your business along with Keith. I do hope you work this out eventually so we can all move past this.

Chicago is an exciting city but Rosemont, is not yes you're correct, I guess I meant to say Rosemont. But I guess I'm saying Chicago is very cold during the show, so you can't really walk around and see the city, and all the fun stuff to do in the city is usually open during the day when you're tied down to the show.

But yes Rosemont is VERY boring... I hope to never go back there for a haunted show. I was happy at first about the move to Vegas, because it was somewhere fun, warm, with tons of nightlife, but I didn't like all the extra costs associated with going to that show.

I dont' think MANY vendors at least ones I talked to was happy about the costs of the show. We need our own buyer seller show...period!

That way we can control where the show goes, control costs, have more hand in marketing the show, things like that. You have to make these things work for everyone, but first and foremost the majority of the people not a handful of people. I think that best sums up Vegas...the minority not the majority.

I find it totally hysterical to read all this with the thought in my head of"I told you so!"

How many people were so excited about it moving to Vegas (Before) it actually happened. I remember all the people that wanted it, posting all these neat little ways to keep the costs down because Chicago is SOOO expensive we don't want it there anymore.

I remember all the people that chimed in (Like myself and Nicole) that decided not to go knowing saving money would not be the case but indeed way more expensive. Yes we both missed it this year and a huge part of our yearly haunt rituals and indeed it sucked.

My Gang from Chicago did go and it was funny because i called them everynight to see how their trip was going, their huge complaint was nightlife and missing the Crowne, and how far they had to walk to get to everything!

They pretty much summed it up as Hated it.

So to listen to people NOW that i warned in the past about where it should go next is nothing more than a joke in my opinion.

It's dead in Vegas and now dead in Chicago as well. People have ruined a dam good thing here and thats to bad.

As far as Chicago as somebody posted there are a ton of things to do! If you have the balls to wrap up and venture out instead of sit in your hotel room, look out the window and whine about how cold it is. Keep in mind MILLIONS of people live there, work there and party there and they survive for the six months it is frigid. They must grow thicker skin there i guess.

And Larry is this the part where your going to start plugging how great it would be in Florida on a regular basis like you did Vegas not even 6 months ago?

And please tell us all how Florida is NOT a tourist attraction and just how cheap a trip that will be, i can't wait!

Face it it's dead and gone, should have bundled up and backed it while it was great. If you did you have plenty of great memory's!

Vegas... Chicago... if someone said right now there will be a show in Orlando, I'm buying my tickets NOW. It's just a great place to visit anyway, and adding business to it like this makes it even better.

I can't think of a better place to go then there...

Where ever we go we need the Crowne - the place where EVERYONE will be. That was what I missed in Vegas most of all, and what I dreaded when I heard of the show moving from Chicago.

If we are back in Vegas, someone on the ground needs to find a place CLOSE to the show who will be open super late and who can fit us all.

I had heard about a food court that some folks were hanging at, but those hotels were so confusing!

Oh well, lots of interesting stuff ahead before next years Vegas I am sure!

                          Thanks!

                            Ben,

                            Agreed 100%.
The Venetian had the Food courts. 1 up and 1 down.
We never seemed to be able to get together anything while we were there.
                            But we tried.
Now that we have been there. I think we can figure out a way to take care of that problem before 2009.
