Hay Ride Death in Oklahoma

Anyone see this story? Oklahoma, a man 52 fell to his death, head hitting the hay rack as a cable broke and his attempt to scare the wagonload by "falling" over the wagon resulted in his demise?
He had on a harness hooked to a bunge cord, hooked to a cable between the trees, the way it sounded.

yep. Heard about it on the radio. Sad thing about it was, everyone thinks he's stupid for doing it. Personally...if it was done the right way, it's a timeless way of scaring people. Of course, if it was done wrong and without the proper safety equipment...well...that's a different story.

I think you could achieve the same scare allowing a dummy fill in for the live human being.
Working with power tools and ladders I know how things can go wrong, things that you might never expect but will pay the price for in injury and your own blood.
Climb a ladder, reach around the back of a board to steady yourself and "POW!" a bee stings you, he was sitting around that corner, no way of knowing........
Reach into a electrical control box of a furnace and a low voltage electrical shock startles you and the reaction of quickly jerking your hand away from the shock gets your hand cut open on the sheet metal of the electrical box.
It is impossible to anticipate everything that can go wrong or cause injury.
When you fool yourself into relaxing because you have it all figured out...that's the next injury about to happen to you!

Harnesses, flying rigs, bungee cords, etc. are not designed to be used repeatedly without a thorough inspection. You can't continuously put a hundred or more pounds of pressure on a rig without SOME wear and tear.

The "hurry-up hide and scare" nature of haunt acting doesn't leave much time for a careful, well-lit inspection of your equipment between groups.

This shouldn't have happened.

Yikes!! Amazing what people do!

Here people are learning the hard way that inserting fireworks into an oriface is not the best of ideas especially if the oriface in question is not suited to it and would best used for what it nature intended it for.

At least he is alive - this years trend of taping or inserting fireworks into cats has resulted in a lot of pet deaths....

But when the public feels let down they explode things - the cops have also been bearing the brunt of it....
