  • Hartford's Haunted Happenings

I am doing some research on an haunt that used to reside in the old G. Fox building in downtown Hartford, CT called "Haunted Happenings". I believe 1997 was it's last year, I am not quite sure.

Does anyone know anything about this haunt? I know Arnold Chase was the creator (at least I think), but who else was involved? Does anyone have any details, or even had experience with it?

Also, the biggest question on my mind is why did it end? I remember there was a deal that said Haunted Happenings (and it's Christmas attraction "Winter Wonderland") were granted at least the next 7 or so years in the building, yet now it's a community college. Something had to have happened, or maybe it wasn't worth it anymore?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Hmmm,

In Issue #14 of Haunted Attraction Magazine, there's an article about Haunted Happenings being auctioned off. Most of the article details the auction, but in the final paragraph this is said:

"Although he could have stayed another season, Mr. Chase decided to auction off the infamous charity event, after the 40-year development rights were given to the Hutensky Group, which plans to build a 1,500 seat nightclub in the basement where the haunted attraction has been. 'It is sad to see it all go, but it opens up a lot of opportunities.' said Arnold, who felt that time restraints and other business reponsibilities made it unfeasible to move the show, which had been built as a permanent attraction. Selling off the show was a viable alternative, which paid off. 'Halloween is in my blood!' stated Chase, who plans to take the money from the auction, and start over from scratch with a new show in the next year or two. 'While taking down Frankenstein's lab scene, I was already redesigning the lab scene for the new show in my mind!'"

Very helpfull, I've actually read that article before but didn't pick up on those details. Thank you very much for that Dr. Spooky Pants!

Does anyone know if Mr. Chase actually did make another attraction, or still plans to?

A couple of years ago Mr. Chase was approached to help put together a new arena sized show in Hartford but in the end result he was not interested. It would have been on the scale of the original Haunted Happening's which I had been through in the 90's and loved.

That's what I wanted to know...if another show was formed and if so what it was called.
