  • safety flares

So, our town asks that we use flares to slow down traffic, and close the street parking on the state road that we are on.
no problem, they ask, we do.

but I feel the flares are pricey, and possibly unsafe as folks walk by them back and forth.

so have any of you heard of, or used these electric LED flares?

it would cost me this year, but save me lotso $$$ in future years.

the only drawback I see are easier to steal than things that are on fire. but I have personnel pretty close to where they are placed

Perhaps you can ask your town/city if you can purchase flares from them. Most of the time they purchase flares in bulk for their police and fire departments. Another option would be those folding barricades that have reflective tape. You might be able to get those borrowed from the city as well. At least a combo of barricades and flares would allow you to use a lot less flares.

the town already does buy them for us. we get the cheapest municipal price we can.
also the state troopers that pass by are always good at throwing us a few extra as well.
these new things are still way cheaper.

Flares seem so old-fashioned to me.
How many drunks will get lips burned as they try to light their cigareete?
How many will try to smoke the burning flare?
Might want to have a motion-activated video camera watching the nonsense.

I have seen those used and they looked pretty good.

I would think the city would prefer them. You don't want to worry about someone stepping on or parking on a real flare, and flares have a definite impact on the asphalt. I can only imagine what a street would look like after a few weeks of real flares being laid on it every night. It would probably need some resurfacing or patching like they do with small potholes at a cost of several thousand dollars, if not more.
