  • Hazers

Does anyone have any experience using either water or oil-based hazers outdoors? Im wondering what might be the best product to maintain constant haze for light beam and laser visibility. Any good advice is appreciated...thanks!

In my experience they don't work outside at all. My only suggestion would be to get yourself a high-pressure misting system. I used one last year on my haunt and it worked great.

      Hey Nate!
It is very tough to use them effectively outside.
Several of the parks I've worked with use a "Diffusion" hazer like this one:

If it's going to be out in the open, your best hope is to pray for a humid night with no wind! I have seen them used at a few outdoor concerts, but practically no impact in my opinion.

As far as oil vs. water-based, I think the oil may work better, but I'd go water-based mainly because the oil can really be messy. I've also known the oil-based to actually cause some people "intestinal discomfort" because essentially you're pumping atomized mineral oil into the air.
Not to mention, the oil-based fluid can really leave a gummy residue.

      Hope this helps,

I forgot to mention that I also agree with Nightmare Grant. The misters do seem to work well and may be the best alternative.

I know Oak Island sells them, but the only one I've actually ever worked with is
"Mee Fog". It's certainly out of most of our price ranges, but very cool.

          Hazers

Hazers are a direct descendant of a machine called a "cracker oiler." These produced aerial haze using mineral oil. Under High pressure, the oil was fed through a special tip and this was called cracking the oil.

You can't effectively use them outdoors, they are used indoors to enhance lasers and lights, most commonly during concerts. You need to fire them up at least an hour before your event. You also must not use air handlers nor have an open door nearby, your haze will say Hasta La Vista!

I do recomend them if the situation is right, they are cost effective and produce great lighting and mood effects!

Listen to them, Children of the night. Oh what music they make.
