Larry, your page layouts are suddenly looking very similar to 13th Hour Magazines'. I know that many haunters really liked the more contemporary look of 13 Hour's mag so I'm wondering if this is deliberate on your part?

              We win in the end

I have to agree with Tim here, be careful Larry, isn't the saying

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"

However, no one argues that 13th Hour Magazine looks great, and the new issue of Hauntworld is looking like it's shaping up to look great as well. Competition benefits the end consumer.

I like the pre-MHC track of strengths and weaknesses and do not like seeing these magazines competing between each other because if all three stay different we would buy all of them instead of one, which would make everyone better off, the owners would still make their money, the vendors would still be able to chose where they advertise and us haunters would still get lots of information. I would definitely have to say that morphing Hauntworld into a smaller version of 13th Hour and competing would be bad.

                  Tim,

I would NEVER copy anything they have done, in fact and this is just my opinion but I feel the whole magazine is terrible. I can't read that thing... you have to hold it 10 feet from your face to see it. Their are NO articles worth five cents to haunt owners... in fact if you want to talk copy cat...

Hmmm... we did 13th Gate so then he does 13th Gate, I'm sure we'll see Bates Motel in their next magazine! LOL

With all of that being said, they do not know the haunt industry, their endless articles on vendors do not help me the haunt owner. If I plunk down five cents to read articles about how to make cookies, cup cakes, and endless articles about vendors SHOOT ME!

As for the design and layout... Brainstorm is doing the layout and they have NEVER EVER seen 13th Hour Magazine, they ever even heard of it. So the answer to your question is NO!

I would NEVER devote say for example ONE page to ONE picture just so I can add more pages and say...we're bigger. There are things however that we have never put into our magazine, and one of them a lot of design work because I believe content is KING. You can buy whatever you want...I play fantasy football and from time to time I buy fantasy football magazines. Sorry to say if Tim Turner wrote a fantasy football book, with tons of pretty pictures, I wouldn't buy it...sorry Tim. LOL

However if some inside expert wrote one, all in black and white, with no pictures, I would buy it. If you are going to PLAY...PLAY TO WIN!

It doesn't matter of the magazine is purple, blue, or black and white, knowledge is what counts not cup cakes. I say each to their own...

                      I Got A Copy

It just showed up, I thought it might be a twisted porno mag. at first. At least someone decided NOT to put any mostly naked photos of Dee Snider on their cover! (I still have bad dreams from seeing those once!)
The large format appeals to those of us who are half-blind from being in the dark all the time,"see pretty big picture!" (BIG but not always "Pretty"!)
It's pretty risky today to put anything of any size into print. I got an offer from Reader's Digest the other day, $10.oo for a whole year! Desperation may have set in as fewer and fewer people read anything any more.
                      "Show me the money?"
No, it's "Show Me The Pictures!"
And "One picture is usually NOT worth a thousand words" , anymore simply because so many now have a total vocabulary of around only 300 words and you couldn't use all of them to describe any picture, "Mommie, Daddy, Fecal, Sh--. F---, Dammit!Food, Pepsi, Fries,Check,Sex,phart."
Only 288 words left, see what I mean?

Good Luck to anyone printing an issue that is a physical item .

I find that most people under under the age of 25 use roughly 300 words when having an average conversation, 265 of which is the word "like"

I guess I am not looking at whose magazine is better, more intersted in gettting new ideas for my home haunt which I am hoping someday going public. I am not afraid to try something out if it is expensive if I can gain some knowledge on a subject. Hopefully over the next few years I can get to some of the shows and meet some of you personaly and am sure it would be the best thing I can do to take the next step but if anyone could post the subscribe form for the magazine I would deeply appreciate it. Once I found out of the haunt world magazine I subscribed to it and recieved my first copy a few weeks back, Good magazine just hope they add a how to section for us rookies. Might be a good addition to add a prop of the week?

                            Thanks

                              Shane,

Are you CRAZY... Brainstorm hasn't attended a Transworld show in like 10 years. That is the truth and they have never seen ANY magazine not even HAM in years. They have their own world going on in Denver.

The good news is... I talked to Brainstorm and asked them to attend St. Louis and they said they are coming, but haven't said if they'll grab a booth or not...yet.

Is the rumor true that the Illustrious Chad Savage moved to that area and is now employed by them?
why don't they know the haunt industry?

Will Chad Savage be able to bring that information of the haunt industry, that you say they lack?
