  • UV Reactive Makeup

Well I finally was given my room to go design for this years haunt and the theme
I have is "Toxic Clowns". Though I plan to have other lighting in the room, I really want to have mainly blacklights wash my scene.

I've seen some places for UV makeup, but only for airbrushing.
where can I find UV facepaint/bodypaint to use as a clown makeup?

Dude, I LOVE toxic zombies!!! This was my favorite theme over the years and the one I will miss the most with Creatures Crypt now gone. Hit the page here for links to makeup. All good resources and you can get UV in most of the makeup places - http://www.hauntworld.com/haunted_ho...ead.php?t=5450

UV makeup wise I liked Wolfe Brothers for their best overall combo pallet. Kryolon's pallet is more available but has things like a weak purple you will probably not use. I will say from Kryolon I like their bright red a lot better than any other I have tried. The other surprise was the UV airbrush makeup from Morris was surprisingly good stuff. Some of the strongest colors and the best invisible UV I have ever worked with. Last time I tried to get it they didn't have it and didn't know when they would get more in.

And now...a few things you can do in brain vomit format.....
      .

      * get UV hair gel - this has many uses. Not only can you UV the hair we coated my son in this one day in a hurry and it looked VERY nasty under UV lights.
      * All latex effects are cooler when the blood underneath is UV
      * You can always UV the skin and have tears and open latex wounds normal with thick and running blood. This works very well for scenes where the UV zombies go from normal light to UV.
      * If you use strong red UV veining under a light airbrushed zombie color you can then stipple on a yellow UV around the eyes and with a yellow UV gel in the hair you get a great nasty toxic look. Combine this with hanging latex skin and you get a good look. The other cool thing is as the makeup crew you can train your actors to apply their own zombie wounds and get them into making their own unique look.
      * Another good look was latex and tissue to make a wrinkled face and then wash it with the UV yellow. That with a DARK red blood is another great look in midrange UV light.
      * If you have UV zombies behind a spark fence or off to the side of the scene I liked to UV red under their eyes. This gave a great glowing red eyes look in the distance without the added cost of UV contacts. Technically red is never to be used around the eye though.
      * We used to have multiple zombies who would go through the UV light, attack a preset "worker" who was in invisible UV makeup who the zombies would drag into the UV light. This would let him transform into a zombie within the scene.
      * Our zombies were always in the modern 2004 Dawn of the Dead / 28 Days / Weeks / (maybe months) later style. None of the old shambling piles of flesh.
      * A good gory UV zombie should even be able to get the "strong men" to jump or step back if the move into their space and under the UV light quickly. The Shock to your eyes of that much gore and color coming at you all at once massively increase the suddenness of the movement. Note: Be prepared to dodge a punch if you are doing it right.

So that was a fast listing..... It would be cool to hear what the rest of you makeup gurus are doing in this space. How twisted do your zombies get?

The best invisible airbrush makeup I used came from Morris Costumes. Fantasy Faces is the brand Morris sells. I really did not like their other UV colors but their invisible UV was fantastic stuff. It was in their catalog but out of stock last time I looked, in 07. Other than that I probably spent too much and bought from Theater FX. You can get about anything UV, or other, from them

              http://www.theatrefx.com/store/comme...le_uv_products

If you are under a tight budget the craft store UV paints will work alright. It was interesting to see at the Creatures Crypt auction that the 9 skull stantions I UV detailed sold for the same as the lots of 20 that were just the skulls. All they had was the UV red we had lying around one year when I decided they needed some detail.....

In doing a fast Google check for new places I ran across this site. http://www.glowtec.co.uk/Body-Paints-info.htm Anyone ever used their invisible UV?
