  • So... How was business this Season?

So how did everyone do? Was business up or down? All the talk about the bad economy had us worried, but we did just a good this year as last. In fact, if AOL hadn't selected October 31st as the VERY DAY to shut down all their free homespace (and thus, cancel all our google links) we would have done better than last year.

(We've had our own commercial web site for a couple years now, but we used to store the site on free AOL home space, and even after we moved it, Google kept the OLD address, as did many of the Halloween search engines. We can eventually update the Halloween search engines, but Google no longer offers a link to modify their address info. No telling how long it will take them to figure it out.)

We still did good on Halloween, because everyone knew we were open then, but it was not as obvious for November 1, and I suspect the drop in attendence that night was due to uncertainty that we were open (due in part to difficulty checking the dates on the website).

But that's just us. How did everyone else do? I'm assuming the fears of recession had little or no impact on haunts in general? (College kids seem to be the last to worry about where their parent's money is coming from.)

We had a good year when we take into account the occurences in our area:

    1) It was our first year with a new name at a new site. We have found our permanent home now, so it should keep business growing now that people can find us year after year.

    2) We had 2 rain outs. Being an indoor-outdoor haunt, Mother Nature can have a hand in our success. This year we lost one Friday night all together and ran 1/2 the haunt at a discount the following Friday.

All said and done, it was a great "first" season for us! Hope everyone else can say the same!
