    Slime

The best way is to purchase Poly Vinyl alcohol from Aldrich or Fischer. You will also need some borate (anhydrous). You mix a 4% by weight, each separately)with water. I make this stuff all of the time. We use it in our chemistry demo's. When I get to work tomorrow I will find out where the public can buy the chemicals needed.

I have run into PVA in fiberglass mold use for curing and release. There is surely a cheaper generic source.

Are you going for something that you can actually touch? Or just for looks?
What we used for our toxic room was Great Stuff and spray painted in with flourecent paint so it would glow under black light.

            4% PVA ( polyvinyl alcohol )
            4% sodium borate ( borax solution )
Small styrofoam or Dixie cups ( like grandma uses )
Wooden stir sticks ( doctors GAG STICKS )
Food coloring ( time to rob the easter egg section in the cupboard )

Mix the PVA and the sodium borate solution together in a small cup (about a 4:1 ratio). First the PVA should be added to the cup. Next, the cross linker (sodium borate) can be added to each cup (remember, you only need about 1/4 as much cross linker). At this point food coloring can be added. One or two drops should be plenty. Begin to stir the mixture immediately. Within a few minutes of stirring the polymer should be dry enough to handle.

play with % to get the consistancy your looking for.... i.e. runny, slimey, etc.

polyvinylacetate (PVAC). This has a slightly different chemical makeup but it behaves in the same way as PVA when a gelling agent is added. Certain "natural" polymers can also be used to produce slime..... i.e. guar gum, which is derived from the bean of the guar plant, methylcellulose, which comes from plants, and cornstarch.... Hope this could help in some way or another....

I will be offering a very cool stringy slime for sale on our website in the future
                - If I ever get it done... lol .... been working on products for quite a while

I had some heart issues that slowed me down but I will have some stuff out this year.
