    Jenny,
Thanks for the announcement and thanks for AGAIN believing in us...as an industry that's ready to grow on its own 2 feet!!!!

We are all grown up guys. This is cause for celebration!!! Here's the thing...I dont mind costumers attending OUR show. Let them come...Let those costume manufacturers who WANT to sell to the haunters come. And, let those costume manufacturers come not just with their costumes, but let them come and pitch us on the pros (and the business plans) of opening a costume retail store adjacent to (or in conjuntion with) our haunts. Let them come to an ATTRACTIONS show...OUR attractions show. (GOD, that feels good to say!) NEVER AGAIN should we feel like we need to combine or piggy back on their retail show. NEVER AGAIN should OUR attractions show have to split the marketing dollars to advertise a combined show. Let the focus be on growing our ATTRACTIONS industry.

Here's the bottom line...In the past, a haunter could not get everything he/she needs under one trade show roof. As a haunter, I would need to attend the haunt show to get my fill of the haunted vendors AND I would need to attend another show (like IAAPA, or other attractions show) to get my needs filled with the other products I need ...LIKE (1) crowd control companies, (2) concession stand companies, (3) gift shop companies/ glow product companies, (4) printing companies, (5) safety companies like ECOGLO, (6) inflatables companies, (7)cleaning companies, (7) etc. etc. etc. Hell, I'd even like to see Fabreze/Lysol type companies come and sell me their products wholesale in cases for my costumes. NOW THAT WE HAVE AN ATTRACTIONS SHOW...Tranworld has a better opportunity to grow our show and BRING these types of vendors under ONE tradeshow roof FOR US.

Now, to do this, Transworld does need to make some changes. (So, Jenny, hear my pleads...please.) We need to broaden. We need to not be found at www.hauntshow.com, but we need to open our arms to ALL the Halloween related attractions. We need to become known as the HALLOWEEN ATTRACTIONS/HAUNT ATTRACTIONS SHOW. We need to pull in the Zoos that put on a "Boo at the Zoo" family friendly events. We need to pull in the Pumpkin Patches the rent the Halloween inflatables and Pony Rides for those family friendly events. We need to pull in the farmers who cut mazes in their corn and sell apple cider. Heck, let's pull in the orchards too...the ones that put on and market a daytime Halloween fun event.

Why do we need to pull all these other attractions in? Because if we do get these other companies to come (the crowd control companies, the safety companies, the concession equipment companies, etc.) then we need to be sure the have an AWESOME show too. We need to be sure they come back to us year after year after year, so we dont ever have to go back to the need to attend 2 shows to get our fill of everything/ every vendor we need and want to buy from.

My flight is touching down and Southwest Airlines is making me get off my computer so I gotta run.

See you in all St. Louis!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why February again? March is much better, otherwise I'm glad its staying put. Bring in more Halloween vendors...We're too small to have a huge show on our own.

I liked the show in March but Feb will be fine with me.

I think it pushes the vendors to come up with new products earlier but if they are able to do that then I think it will be fine.

In my opinion everyone complaining about the weather... think about it. You get off a plane or get out of your car, go to your hotel zip over to the convention center and run down the street to eat or back to your hotel. How much time do you REALLY spend out in the weather???

I know St. Louis has alot of sites to offer but the REAL reason we are all there is to look at new products, buy products, and network with fellow haunters. While having a great time away from home.

lets look at the positives of the show.

          1) It is staying in the same place next year which will give everyone a familiar feel like Rosemont used to do for those of us that have gone there for years.

          2) Hotel deals should be common again next year like the $55 per nite rates posted here at the Ren.

3)Vendors saving money on booth rental trickles down to the buyers.

          4) St .Louis is a great city for the convention and not because I live relatively close to it but because all it has to offer. It has everything, casinos, museums, dinner theatres, nitelife,HAUNTED HOUSES LOL, and everything in between.

The show being in the same place is a good thing for the industry. Lets keep it positive and make OUR show GREAT!!!!!

As far as Monty opening up The Edge of Hell and The Beast in K.C. Those are great haunts and I think it would be cool if he did open up. The 4 hour bus ride each way would be pretty long but intertaining also.

And as a last note, the bus tickets for the Columbia Haunt Tour are almost gone! Reserve yours today because they will be sold out SOON!

Cleaning companies? Heck Bill just gets all kinds of good industrial cleaners from work! But I will say maybe that is a good idea. Having the good cleaners does make a difference as opposed to the stuff you can buy anywhere.

              Pros and Cons

              Con

I am not in favor of February because of weather. I also know that many vendors are still trying to get things done they need more time to develop product.

              Pro

The show needs to stay in a city that is willing to offer up the convention hall CHEAP... Rosemont is not cheap, Vegas is not cheap, most cities are not cheap. The Haunt show needs to STAY in a SECOND TIER city not a first tier city like Vegas or Chicago.

As we are seeing right now you can get hotels really cheap here, cheaper than Rosemonst this helps cost. The convention hall is 1/4th the price of Rosemont, and we have more places to eat.

Secondly, the show needs to be in central US because it must stay a driving show so that is a pro.

Lastly, I have talked many times to vendors who said move up the show dates and give us more time to produce product... meaning show sooner, take orders sooner so you can get that extra time to deliver product.

NO matter what city you pick no matter what time of year there will always be pros and cons.

Which one is better or worse the pro or the con?

              Last but not least...

Let me say this if we keep this show together we must change the name of the show, it must be more inviting to other industries that share some common ground with us, we must create more of an amusement show that showcases haunts. We must also get on the ball and find those pumpkin patches, Christmas attractions, corn mazes, ren fairs, amusement parks, fec's and more.

We must also bring the RETAILERS to this show those who do want to sell to us not the other way around. Meaning we should not go there to see 90% of stuff we don't buy, can't buy, or they won't sell to us...rather those who do have something we will buy and what they will sell to us bring them to the show.

                Hey Larry,

Changing the name of the show is a good idea. Here is one: T.A.T.S. "Themed Attractions Trade Show"

                Just an idea.

                  David,

Good idea. I know Transworld is wide open to changing the name of the how for 2010. It needs to be more of an attraction show this will help haunts more than a haunt only show.

                  This helps everyone.

Everyone should put their two cents in. I really likes Davids idea.

Why change the name? Then it's not a haunt show anymore... it wouldn't be "our" show. Why can't it just be "Transworld's Haunt AND Attractions Show"...

Looks like Larry your wanting to just make another IAAPA or a FunExpo... why? Every vendor should be focused around one center... HAUNTS! Or, why doesn't IAAPA open up a haunt section and charge cheaper booths for haunt vendors. Wouldn't that be ideal?

Seems like your trying to take it way off base, this is why I think MHC needs to be THE tradeshow.

Again, why change the name? It's OUR show... not anyone elses. -Tyler

Hmmmm… I’m not so sure about that name change idea. I understand that you want to include other industries, but I’d hate to see the show lose its identity and turn into some generic “amusement show”. No offense, but I personally don’t care for the "Themed Attractions Trade Show" title. It’s not nearly descriptive enough. I think if people see “themed attraction”, they won’t necessarily connect it with haunted houses. “Themed Attractions Trade Show”? Is this a trade show for dinner theaters, museums or carnivals, or perhaps something else?

All I’m saying is that if the name is changed, we need to keep it descriptive... and we need to keep the word(s) “Haunt” or “Haunted House” or “Haunted Attraction” in the title. Then there can be no confusion what it’s all about, when people hear the name of the show.

                        Happy Haunting,

                          Yeah,
I am not so happy about the announcement of the show being a full month sooner than normal. That will completely disrupt our development time.

As I sad before we designed more stuff than even this year. But it was all finished in the last 3 weeks. We could adapt but having the tradeshow in the same month for the last 10 years makes it a little harder to adapt to this change.

But if our customers want the tradeshow sooner, we are happy to oblige. But Transworld may have picked this date because none in March were available.

I understand Larry's position on changing the name, but personally I like the current name "Haunt and Attractions Show" is a perfect fit.

All the questions and worries will be answered in about 2 weeks.

Jen from Transworld has spoken to the bar personnel at the Renaissance Hotel and it is going to be the meeting place for lots of haunters. You will get a discount on drinks with your Haunt show badge.

                            Me too...

I concur with Kevin, February is not a good time for the vendors. We just simply don’t have enough time to create new products. Late March is much MUCH better. Give us an extra month and it will make for a much better show. I would also assume it’s better for the Haunts because they don’t necessarily need to spend money so early.

I think there should be more planning and surveying done. To my mind- announcing next years dates and venue before this years show has had a chance to prove itself and without surveying the vendors and buyers is foolish and pompous. But hey, I don’t run the show!

I also agree with Adam and Kevin that the name should remain the same or similar… why add even more confusion? There is already IAPPA and Fun Expo, etc. Sure I want to increase my potential market base but there is a reason for industry specific shows. Buyers know they can go there to find what they need without having a ton of crap to weed through. Certainly the “Haunt” show should go after more vendors that the buyers are interested in, but we don’t need a name change to do that.

                            Doug.

In my opinion and again this just an opinion, changing the name of the show and taking "Haunt or Haunted" out of the name I feel could broaden our market. I am sure I will be crucified for this statement.

I completely agree with Larry and I totally get what he saying. All of us can create products for many different venues besides just Haunts. We can open up to a whole new world of FEC's amusement parks and yes restaurants and museums, why not?

Instead of having 4,000 or 5,000 buyers wouldn't be great if we had 10,000 to 20,000.

Besides it seems we have way to many haunt related shows as it is. We defiantly need something to grow this industry whether it be a name change or something else.

                              Just my 2 cents.

I do agree with everyone else that the dates of the 2010 show are not good. It should remain in March.

Anyway good luck to all at this years Transworld.

                                David,
You hit the nail on the head! By broadening the show, not only would it help the haunters by attracting more vendors that we need, but it would also help the haunt vendors too. If a haunt vendor knew that in attendance would be haunters as well as other attraction operators, then they would be able to research and develop products that pertain to those attractions. They could essentially grow their business BIG TIME.

                                Adam,
I agree with you too. I think the name suggested is TOO broad. We still want to maintain our roots, and our roots are Halloween/Haunt related.

Anybody else have any other name suggestions out there?
