Maybe it was because some people worked Friday but the crowd was good. Saw people making purchases. Kicking myself for not getting a booth. Rotten wasn't there. A couple other open spots too. My wallet sure is lighter after my wife's shopping spree on props.
Going back today to see what kind of deals I can score

      National Haunters Review

My son and I just returned home last night. We had a great time as it was the first for that convention for us. Lots of great information. We also had a great time at Bates Hotel. Thanks Randy! Met alot of new people and old ones that you only see once a year. They did everything possible to help my son gain interest in the haunt community. Thanks again, To:

      Randy
      Ed Gannon

      Jeremy from Creepy Collections
      Michael Bruner
      Todd
The Bad Boys Scenic Design Group
The 7 floors from Hell Group
And anyone else I might have forgot to mention!

The attendance for this show is growing by leaps and bounds. This is a great group of people, the show was very organized, and for me it felt great to be home if not only for a short time.
      :-D
You made our trip a very enjoyable one. Everything was wonderful.

I haven't been to any of the other shows, so I can't speak of how they compare, but I thought it was pretty good.
There were a decent number of vendors there, prop makers, electronics controllers, insurance company or 2, designers & builders and haunts. There were a few booths that seemed out of place but not many. People seemed to be into it for the most part.
I arrived at around 9:15 on the very rainy Saturday, it wasn't really all that croded when I arrived, but by the time I left (11ish?) it was getting a lot more crowded. I did see people making sales, but if it was a lot/they were pleased I couldn't really tell.

            Vendors View of NHC

Between the economy, some bad weather, and the holiday weekend we prepared for the worst. Overall the show was a bit slow as far as overall volume. It would come in bursts.
I know some vendors were not pleased with their sales but I don't know the percentage. We did quite well. Expenses were paid in full on Friday, by noon on Saturday we had sold out all our cash and carry items, and by close of business Saturday we had put a good size dent in our invoice book. In short, sales were very good for us and the new business opportunities and contacts we made were priceless.
We did notice that the majority of people stopping by the booth were qualified haunt buyers so I'll take quality over quantity any day. The convention itself was well organized and the vendors were well taken care of. We'll definately be back next year.

Didn't get out of the booth much so I only have a handful of photos.

              Great Show.

We made it to the show on Saturday and had a great time. It was nice to see some of the same vendors that were at Transworld be at this show as well. It was a great combination of both big and smaller vendors. There was also a nice list of seminars that were offered. We took the Bad Boys Scenic Design Seminar and were very pleased as they created an entire facade from start to finish, we bought their Styrofoam Masons DVD. Everyone was very nice and happy to talk and answer any questions. This show does appear to be growing and if you cannot make it to Transworld or are looking to start at a smaller convention I would highly suggest the NHC. We did walk away with quite a few items, contacts and a grocery list of things still to buy! Thanks to everyone who took the time to speak with us.

Guess if anything I was expecting more stuff geared towards the haunter since it was the Haunter's Convention.
I was diggin it and the vendors made the trip worth it by making some killeer deals I could not walk away from.
I did make a couple contacts that I look forward to working with in the coming months. Got a couple of my masks handed out.
Looking in my car as I left it was funny sick. Bodies everywhere. Back seat. Trunk.
Had to pass on the seminars which I regret but it was that or more props. I just can't wait to get to work on my Halloween stuff for this year.

National Haunters Convention my take on sales !!!

Chuck, and haunters first a big hello to you all, Rich ....betsy buttons loves you to....i seen a tear well up from her button as you wheeled off the floor saturday.

We set a record at the show for sales beating sales from 2008 and 2007 combined.
i was shocked to be honest because i had no idea.
there was alot of vendors there and not enouh attendees but we still pulled out a huge victory.
as far as its compared to transworld its two diffrent shows, one is a industry tradeshow and one a convention.

so i try not to compare the sales
both shows were record sales for our company.
so far 2009 is off to a great start for us. i can only imagine what the next six months will look like. we now will turn our attention to the midwest haunters convention and releasing 4 more new items there that we had no time to produce for these two shows. to everyone that kept asking me at transworld and national ,i promise i will bring some pigs to midwest...... i though you guys were sick of them by now. i guess not.....lol

plus we will bring the GOAT prop there...

Rob and I are responsible for that.

We're trying to make our con more "accessible" to the general public and appeal to a greater demographic.

In other words, we experimented. We contacted vendors we thought would do well in a haunted house environment.

We had an antique Halloween vendor, an arts and crafts Halloween vendor, a book store that sold 1st editions of horror novels, etc. etc. etc.

We took a risk, some of those vendors were successful (a couple *UNBELIEVABLY* so) others did "OK" (as in broke even but were still willing to come back.)

In this day and age, you need to be willing to take chances, you need to be willing to challenge your audience, and of all people on earth, haunters should realize that. Do you change scenes in your haunt every year or do you just let it stagnate?

Plus, I managed to score two incredibly hard to find Carl Barks books!
