  • Corn Maze Seed Question

This year we're looking to add a small corn maze to our haunted event and was wondering what type of seed everyone uses for their corn mazes? I've seen over 25 different types and called a few suppliers who could not figure out which would be the best type of seed to use. Does anyone have any opinions or suppliers?

    Thanks

If you live in a part of the country that normally plants corn, seek out a local feed & seed dealer they should be able to tell you what works best in your area. Some soil samples might have to be taken.
I would be planting a corn maze in my underware butt nobody wants to get within 25 feet of my soil sample!

Here in Florida we will be planting Kandy Korn Hybrid. It takes 89 days to harvest so we will plant it (in buckets) at the end of July. In Florida this corn can be planted between March and August and it will grow up to 8 feet tall. We are putting it in buckets so that it can be moved around. We are going to make three very small corn patches in between the stands at the Famers Market scene in our haunt, each patch will have a scare crow in front of it. The gag (tried but true) is that one of the scare crows is a actor. The seed I bought is Ferry Morse brand they have been in business since 1856. They have a 800 helpline on every package, good luck I hope this helped. Let me know where you are in the country and I will tell you the planting season for Kandy Korn Hybrid.

If anyone is interested, here's a link to a book on how to design, grow, and cut corn mazes. I may just order it myself.

The corn in Carroll Co. Illinois is about 8 feet tall right now!
We took a drive today and couldn't see a thing except corn looking out of the car, it was just too tall!

I am no expert on "Corn" but your corn seems to be growing sideways in the picture!
Wait! The road was built sideways too!?
                Which planet is this on?
                Which dimension?
Are you using skinny reddish sticks to hold the corn?
                Mars. It must be Mars.
I have always wondered how they transport all those chocolate candy bars from there to earth and keep them from melting into Goo!?

No red sticks, I should have rotated the photo. I don't think kennyny is looking at this post any more anyway. I could be wrong, kennyny if your out there, Whats up with your corn maze?

I'l post a photo of the corn once we get where we want it but, I can tell you right now it is not going to get 8' tall. More like 4 to 5' tall and on top of that it is on its way out. Thats okay because I like the look, I think not planting it right into the ground was a mistake. On well, live and learn.

Now fill out the government paperwork, put that acre in the land bank and they pay you next year for not growing any corn, after they establish how much corn grew there , you will have to mow the cornfield (plant something mowable) to get your free money, though.
