  • Expanding Haunt looks like Opening Next Year. Issues?

It appears after a couple of board meetings we will be expanding our Haunt in 2010 due to timing. We will still be holding our "outside" yard haunt as we have in years past. FYI www.haunteddeadend.com We will be able to test some ideas that we have for 2010 as well as promote our new attraction/location in 2010.
This also gives us a chance to gather up more funding since we will have an entire year to save as well as donations. We have big plans and have the haunt all layed out and ready to build. This is our first time on the big stage and have done extensive research on what it takes to start and run a Haunt on the big stage and we have found some hurdles (sprinkler system inside tents, 1 officer and 1 Fireman Paid) We have more time to work through these hurdles as well as any others that we may incur. We have found an inexpensive tent.

    Sprinklers?

What state are you in that is requiring sprinklers in a tent? Is it common for most states to require this?

N.Y. Westchester suburbs and all other haunts in N.Y. do not have sprinklers in their tents.

Fire and building codes are some hurdles that many haunts do not take into consideration until after its too late and sometimes even when you do take them into consideration it can be huge hurdle to get past the fire inspection. Fire marshals have great latitude in enforcing the laws and regulations and many times they have a hard time classifying haunts which predicate what codes you fall under. I suggest meeting with the local fire marshal and building inspector as early as possible so you can avoid any delays or pain in getting open. Good Luck.
