  • Student Discount Nights

In an effort to try and attract kids from further away this year, we're thinking about offering free admission for our opening weekend to kids at certain schools who show a school ID and print out a coupon. The idea behind this is that we don't get people from these areas anyways, so hopefully some of them come the first weekend and start some word of mouth. However, we're worried that this might upset some of our loyal customers who have come year after year from the surrounding schools, as they would be paying full price. Has anyone had any experience with this? Are there any other better ways to try and attract people from further away to come? Any help would be much appreciated.

We haven't done anything like that with schools but we do give free tickets to the military. What if you gave a certain amount of free tickets to each school. Maybe they could email you and the first ?(how ever many you decide on from each school) gets a free ticket and they have to bring in the email and put there names on a guest list (so that you don't get duplicates).

      Free Tickets! hahahahah!

We give away free tickets quite often throughout the year (we are open every night of the year) and nobody ever uses them!?
We do limit the amount of time that they are good for a couple of months and they are not good in October.
We avoid coupons, special tickets and other things that may inspire bartering or added confusion at the busy October ticket window when time is So Precious and fleeting.

        Why not do..
All Students with an ID get $2.00 off Or something to that effect. Your still giving them the incentive to come And not getting the locals upset.

        Just a thought..

          Discount Offerings

          Hey there,

Ethan from Hundred Acres Manor haunted house in Pittsburgh here. We have offered student discounts for quite some time and it has been very successful for us. I would personally recommend that you do charge at least something for students from the areas out of the way, otherwise, if they are not going to be paying customers why have them taking up your paying customers spot in your cue line? (from the business side of things, as a haunter I wouldn't care if everyone was getting in free as long as they got to experience my haunt I would be happy). I am sure that if you offered an incentive along with your discount this would further your ticket sales. Here is an example of a promo we might use at Hundred Acres Manor to attract customers who would not have come less the promo:

Student Discount for any warm body showing a college. high school/ etc. student ID. Buy One Get One (this gets your customers to your door but still gets a sale out of the equation). Students also receive a $1.00 coupon toward concession items (the cheapest item being $1.00 and that would be your "loss leader" in other words the item you would loose money on. Think of it this way, most would use the $1.00 coupon for a hot dog that would cost a dollar and would be covered by the coupon but then they need a drink right? And then their girlfriend NEEDS a Glow-Necklace. Best case scenario they buy a funnel cake that cost you 20 cents but is retailed at $3.00. They apply the coupon and get a funnel cake for $2.00. You still make a profit! You may also want to offer discount tee shirts or your haunt merch. at a discount to college/high school students. This gets them wearing you brand. Even if it turns out to be a gym tee shirt! With the trend being emo and punk rock any black tee will be worn! Fall Out Boy has never been so trendy lol! (Haunters you should be happy about this craze).

Just a suggestion, I hope that it was atleast a bit helpful?

          Best Wishes and Happy Haunting,

          Ethan
