Does anyone have a recommendation for a good fog machine or brand? I keep seeing Antari, Chauvet, Martin, American DJ and VEI..

I've read a few things about Chauvet that make me leary. I know that Froggy's uses Martin.

I am looking for something for the long term as I need to acquire a couple machines this year and then maybe add on in the future.

I see that some of them have DMX that allows you to link and control the machines together. Is this useful or important?

    I appreciate your feedback.

I would reccommend Martin, although all of those brands make a pretty good machine. Make sure you maintain them right, and prepare them for storage correctly (here is a link to froggy's reccommendation on how to maintain them http://www.froggysfog.com/category/cleaning/. As far as the DMX connector, if you are currently using a lighting board or controller that supports DMX, then you could take advantage of this. However I have found that it is easier to just have a wired or wireless remote control that is on a timer or actor controlled. I have also found that for indoor use, the cheaper machines that you can find for $40 or $50 in the party stores will work pretty good, but for a short time. So if you dont mind buying a new one every year or 2, this will get you by as well. I wouldnt use them outdoors though, they dont seem to work well in the cold.

I've never tried any other brand aside from Gemmy's "The Fog Machine". It was the first brand I bought back in '99 and it still huffs and puffs to this day. It's always been great to me!
