How the 2014 Rutledge “Get Your 12th Man Color On” Works On July 19th, starting at 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, simply run or walk the Rutledge 12th Man Blue Maze making sure to get doused in blue and green from head to toe! Be sure to make it through before Seattle Seahawk 2013 Super Bowl Champions, Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice arrive at 1 p.m. They’ll be on-site until 2 p.m.! With only two rules, the Rutledge “Get Your 12th Man Color On” activity is easy to follow: 1. Wear white or purchase your official event tee click here 2. Finish plastered in color Will I get an autograph? This is not an autograph event. And although you might very well get an autograph from one of the Players, it is not set up as a line event. Access will be “in the round” and Players will interact with fans much like a training camp atmosphere. You can take all the event/Player pictures you want! Again, this is not an autograph event and no refunds will be given if autograph not received. Can I bring an item, like my jersey to get signed? This is a messy event so if you choose to bring a personal jersey, football or other memorabilia you hope to have an opportunity to get signed, please be aware that it could get cornstarch “paint” on it. If you choose to bring an item, plan ahead and put it in a bag. However, if your item does get “messy”, is lost or stolen, the Rutledge Corn Maze will not be responsible for damage or replacement. What is the small bag of cornstarch for? When the players arrive by helicopter at or around 1 p.m., we will have a countdown and all throw our blue and green colors in the air for a true 12th Man welcome. So be sure to stop by the Lucky Eagle Casino booth on-site and pick up your color bag. Will the color ruin clothes or shoes? We suggest wearing light color or white items that you won’t mind getting “colorized” with Seahawk blue and green. Most of the cornstarch color will wash out but there are no guarantees. If you LOVE color and want to preserve your one-of-a-kind design, simply spray it with vinegar and iron over it completely. The color will fade over time but this will slow the process down. For FULL color cleaning ideas and tips, see below. What is the “paint”? Is it safe? What if I’m pregnant? The color powder used at the “Get Your 12th Man Color On” event is food grade cornstarch and 100% natural and gluten free. As with any substance, you want to keep it out of your eyes and our “certified” color-throwers will aim low as you pass by. You might want to wear sunglasses or goggles for your eyes and use a bandana or face mask for your mouth and nose. If you’re pregnant, it is up to you to check with your doctor prior to participation and follow his/her advice and the recommendations listed above. Will cleaning stations be available at end of event? No. However, a vigorous dust-off will likely knock off the worst of it. Bringing a change of clothes or a towel to sit on in the car on your way home is just plain good planning and highly recommended! Are cameras and phones safe to have in the color zones? Our photographers are totally fine shooting from a medium distance (25-50 feet). If you want to get shots right in the midst of the color we recommend placing phones inside a clear plastic bag (like a baggie) or some sort of plastic wrap can be utilized. Are there refunds? Unfortunately, we cannot issue refunds. The logistics of setting up and planning the event make it impossible. What happens if it rains? Hey, we live in Washington State. We’re tougher than that! The Rutledge “12th Man Color On” event will go on. In fact, rain can even make the colors brighter! AND NOW FOR SOME “PRE” EVENT HELPFUL TIPS: We realize you want the memories of a fabulous 12th Man event but even the most fanatical fans might not want to be green and blue forever! So here are some helpful ideas. Before Getting Your 12th Man Color on: If you have naturally light colored or highlighted hair, it’s a good idea to oil your hair before the event. This will help keep the color from sticking. Olive oil, coconut oil or a leave-in conditioner can all help. Every head of hair is different and will react differently to the color. The green and blue specifically have been known to stain blondes for a few days. Plan accordingly! If you need to insure color free hair hours after the event, wear your hair in a ponytail and consider a bandana as a practical fashion accessory! Use it to cover your hair, your mouth, or even to help knock off the excess color at the end of the event! Sunglasses, swim goggles, safety glasses, any type of eye protection can be a great idea as well – especially inside the color maze and when you’re throwing your color as we welcome Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice. Though the color will eventually wash out of just about everything, we will remind you again to only bring or wear what you won’t mind getting “colorized” – and that goes for footgear too! After Getting Your 12th Man Color on: Now you’re home! Before heading into the house, take a minute to again try to dust off as much of the cornstarch color as you can. Do this BEFORE applying any water. With luck, most of the color will simply disappear! HAIR: You’ll also want to dust any loose powder out of your hair and brush vigorously – do so outside first if there is considerable powder as you don’t want to track thru the house or cover the bathroom floor and sink. If you decided to use the oil or leave-in condition option prior to our “Get Your 12th Man Color On” event, now is the time to rinse that out. Use COLD water first then wash hair like normal. If color is still present – our research has uncovered that mixing baking soda and blue Dawn dish soap together and re-washing can be effective at lifting that last bit of color. If some color persists, play it off! Wear your Seahawk jersey and be proud of your 12th Man status – after all, pre-season is just around the corner! CLOTHING: If you want to wash the cornstarch color out of your light/white shirt, it’s best to get it into the washer as soon as possible once you’re home. Again, try to remove all excess powder before placing into machine. Wash separately with COLD water. Do the same for all affected pieces of clothing – whites/lights separate from colors and use cold water only. Remember, it’s likely not all the color will come out of your white tee although it will fade over time
