  • Prosthetic Syringe

Alright, I had an idea for my costume for this year. My plan is to create the illusion that the most of my arm has been replaced with a syringe. My question is, how would i build it? it would be awesome to have a spring-loaded needle, which would be relatively simple since i could trigger it with my hand inside the syringe. HELP ME PLEASE! -Tristin

          Syringe

Dude that looks awesome! But the one I'm trying to make would be a much larger model so that my hand and forearm could fit inside it. Itll probably have a straight needle but I dont doubt for a second that that looks awesome!

I think first you would want to start out with black pvc big enough to slide your arm in. Next, select a size or two bigger diameter clear pvc pipe http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=24353 to slip over the black pvc. Use silicone to seal the two together, starting with one end, then filling the middle core with your fave liquid (ex. blood colored water, flourescent green water...whatver) and seal the top then in the same manner. You have an instant glass syringe tube. For the end, you could try cutting an instant iced tea can or coffee can to cover the end, working your syringe into the end and spray paint and detail as needed. For the plunger, you could make it out of anything durable really... just make your form and cover it, making sure it's lightweight and isn't in the way when your arm is resting at your side. Good luck... I would love to see what you come up with!!!

As a kid we used to make home made spear guns for spearing fish in the river, this same concept could work for the needle popping out. We would use bunggies or old enter tubes tied to one end and would just load it up and hold with hand until ready to launch, just let it go and it would fire out. Be Safe...

I actually wrote a long recommendation on how to make this a few days ago, one accidential key stroke and it all went away! the difference between Kimmys and mine is i recommended that you use mirror film to make a "never ending hallway effect" in between the two tubes, then put the liquid in it.
I also recommend using this liquid
                    http://www.google.com/products/catal...=1230&bih=533#

and then embedding a few black light LEDs in the silicone that seals the tubes that way it always glows. a tube embedded in it running to your mouth or an air pump could make it bubble.

for the other end a clear funnel could make the shape. a tube could be the needle. a Cam could make it move in and out
http://www.robives.com/mechanisms/cams for the movement a lithium powered drill could make the cam spin. Or you could put a nozzle from a "swiffer wet jet" to squirt water through the end of the needle at people. Its already battery operated and could fit inside your syringe.

                      Allen

I was planning on having a steel syringe that you cant see in to have that more realistic effect, that would look cool however and I would reccommend it to any other attraction that has a more modern lab or even medical scene

                        Plans

Im planning on getting the pvc like kimmy suggested and wrap some sort of sheet metal around it. Josh from Skullyprops is helping me with a design and is helping me to come up with a design for the needle. And allen, the idea for the swiffer wet jet sounds cool, i might do it!
