People..
It has always intrigued me how this place manages to keep coming back. I learned about this place in 2013 and said to myself "once this is well known to the public, it will be immediately shut down." Here I am four years later still wondering what the heck is up with this place!? I can't imagine why people would sign up for this. I'm also not a fan of how media refers to it as a "haunted house". It really isn't fair to attractions that put hours upon hours creating pieces of art that put you in an alternate reality. Anyone can shove people into buckets of water in their garage or torture someone....----------------------------XX---------------------------
Haunting is a bug. This bug bit me really really hard.

I’ve always been troubled by the media conflating that type of experience with traditional haunts.
I can accept that there is a market for people who want to experience physical suffering in a controlled settling and that there are people who are happy to inflict it on them.
Of course it raises the ethical and legal questions of how far such a service should be allowed to go even with the consent of all parties, but that’s an issue for the community at large and the regulators. Much like with pornographic content, society will have to find a balance between freedom of expression, freewill, and then the collective ethics of the people.
The problem for us is when this type of violent experience is marketed as a Haunted House.
This doesn’t do either business any good. It’s not good if patrons expect a traditional haunt and find themselves in the back of a van being roughed up. They may sign extensive wavers but if there’s enough talk about how it’s all smoke and mirrors then you wonder if such folks truely believe that they will take as much abuse as they do. Particularly in our modern society where everything has a waiver. Likewise, for folks who want a rough experience, it’s going to be disappointing to come to a normal haunt and find it isn’t violent.
To me there’s two issues. Firstly, the community needs to decide if it will accept patron’s consenting to violent experiences, then if it does, these services need desperately to be given a new name and classed as the seperate industry they are. Call them abduction simulations, torture simulations or some other name, but do not call them Haunted Houses. They are not haunted houses.
It’s not good for either business to have the general public misled about either product.

Two years ago we had a customer give us a poor review and said our haunt wasn’t scary enough. I responded and asked him what scared him and if he had been to a haunted house before. His response was he had been to McKamey Manor and he was comparing us to them. I thanked him for his responses and told him that if that was what it took to scare or entertain him; we would not be able to meet his expectations. We’ll never allow touching at our haunt and we certainly wouldn’t consider torturing our guests either.
We get mostly very high reviews and are considered a very frightening experience, but it's hard to frighten a guest that only gets scared when someone is physically abusive towards them. I don't have a problem with businesses that provide this type of entertainment, it just isn't for me.
I agree, if you are torturing guests, then they should be listed under something other than haunted house. Maybe torture chamber or torment room?

This guys is the single biggest black eye to our industry. He's full of himself and a danger to the entire industry. Personally I think the industry should send our press releases explaining what is or isn't a haunted house. His attraction isn't a haunted house its a crime waiting to happen.
