Legends of the Blue Hole - The Devil’s Puddle in Winslow, New Jersey - 123 Views
There are many strange and haunted places in the United States. However, most of them don’t involve bottomless portals to Hell. The “Blue Hole” of New Jersey seems to do just that. The Blue Hole is a nearly perfect circle of water, deep in the Pine Barrens of Winslow, NJ. The water is strangely clear blue, unlike the murky waters of it’s surrounding counterparts. It is said that fish do not swim in the water and that there are no signs of life inside of what many call “The Devil’s Puddle”.

Queen's Hotel in Cape May, New Jersey - 108 Views
The hotel was built in 1876. The second floor was a gambling casino for gentlemen. The third floor was available for entertainment of a more intimate nature. A woman would sit in a rocker on the porch, sewing. If she saw a police wagon or patrolman coming, she would rock forcefully to alert those inside. There is also a secret door from one of the buildings on the main street to the Queens Hotel. Another door was the "entrance" to the hotel. Customers would enter through the business entrance, and then be shown through the other doors to the casino or the the third floor. One of the rooms on the third floor is frequently found ransacked, with the decorations strewn over the furntiure and floor. In the same room, the toilet once exploded. When a plumber arrived, he found no reason for the explosion. Electricity has inexplicably gone out on the entire third floor. An electrician was called and the wiring and circuit breakers examined, but no cause for the outage was ever discovered. Guests in the room have had someone bump their bed as they slept, as if someone were walking by in the dark. They have also smelled very strong perfume. An interesting aside - the Queens Hotel has a more recent claim to infamy. William Bradfield, who was convicted of the murder of schoolteacher Susan Reinert and her children claimed to have been staying at the inn when the murders were committed. Reinert's nude body, chained and battered, was found in the hatchback trunk of her car outside a motel in the Harrisburg suburbs in 1979. Her children, Michael, 10, and Karen, 11, were last seen with her in the car and have never been found. The investigation was the most extensive in the state's history and spawned 2 books, one a bestseller, and a television movie. Bradfield, sentenced to life, died in February 1998 in Graterford Prison. mini-series

Find the best and scariest haunted houses, real haunts, Halloween attractions, Hayrides and more near or in the Newark New Jersey area.  One of the most popular is the Legend of the Jersey Devil.  Over  the years the story has been changed and like many stories, a bit revised.  The way I tell it is the truth and all facts.  It was a rainy night and the year was 1735.  A woman by the name of Leeds was pregnant, and about to give birth.  She was gathered by many of the women from town.  Many say they were there more out of curiosity than to help.  It was rummered that Mother Leeds was into Withcraft and there was fear that her baby would be born a monster.  The time came when the baby was born.  At first the young child looked perfectly healthy and fine.  A few moments had passed and the baby started changing, the child started changing into a horrible creature.  It is said it had a head like a horse, a body like a snake and wings like a bat.  As the beast kept growing in size everyone in the room become more terrified.

Just then, the large beast started beating eveyone with it's huge, thick tail, including it's mother.  A large scream or whinning noise is heard and then the beast is gone into the night.  The legend goes that the Jersey Devil still roams the forest area in New Jersey attacking anything from crops, live animals and many say it has been spotted at the New Jersey shore.

Located in Essex County is one of the more infamous mental institutions to ever be built in all Newark, New Jersey.  The Essex County Hospital, which was originally named Overbrook Mental Institution began construction in the late 1800's.  Over the next several years there will be massive violence, unexplained death which will eventually lead to the closing of the scariest house for the mentally and criminally insane forever.

In 1917 there was a problem in the broiler room and what follwed was horrific tragedy.  Over the next 20 days, there were 24 reported deaths from freezing to death and 32 more reports of patients having frost.  During the Great Depression while so many people going financial and rough times, this led to the overcrowding of the Essex County.  As time went on the care just became worse.  Eventually in the year 2007 the Essex County Hospital was closed for good.  After a century of despicible care and horrible values there were a reported 10,000 human deaths.
