 The Hauntings of the Causeyville General Store

In 1869, a small building was built in Meridan, Mississippi to trade with the Choctaw Indians that still inhabited the area.  Known as the Causeyville General Store, it served as the local post office in addition to the general store until a newer building was erected in 1895.  Since then, the building has been home to the International Harvest Gristmill and still serves an old-fashioned general store, selling a little bit of just about everything.  But there’s much more to the Causeyville General Store than just rows of various products; something far more sinister and dark lurks in the old store. 

In 2006, the general store’s proprietor, Dorothy Hagood, allowed a group of paranormal investigators to probe the Causeyville General Store.  They used infrared cameras, digital and audio recording, and other high-tech equipment to investigate strange happenings at the store.  The group was able to photograph orbs of light in several places throughout the building and strange sheets of light in the wing that once was a doctor’s office. 

The store also has antique pianos on display in the back of store which are not in working order; however, on tapes made by the paranormal investigators during the course of their investigation, soft piano music can be heard in the background, presumably coming from the pianos that do not play normally.

Another strange occurrence happened right after the group left; the following morning a sales clerk arrived to unlock the store and found a light swinging from the ceiling along with all the ceiling decorations bouncing violently from their strings.  The owner found the clerk sitting on the steps when she arrived, clearly shaken by the incident.

No one knows exactly why or who the spirits are that haunt the Causeyville General Store.  Over the years the store has served various different functions including a movie theater, a doctor’s office, and now a general store but the ghosts have remained haunting the building throughout the years.
