Add something a little stickier to the mix like shellac or water soluble glue. Or you can do the wet down then spraypaint method might yield good results? Are they those melamine formed tile style walls?

I would test out wet down and spay paint method in a hidden corner first. I think it should work out great. It might be a good idea to give it a flat clear coat when you are finished as well.

I like wood stain, or mix future floor wax with your acrylic paint.

We spray wood stain and then before it dries, blot it gently with a soft cloth. It gives you the look of mildew.
