well last night i went though my haunt that i work at. now i am one of the casting Directors/ make-up artist there. Now as i went though all my actors keep saying "hi" to me and not really scaring me at all.. we have this rule and it is.. scare every one.

Now have you tried going though your own haunt dress up as another person to see if your actors are doing there job?
it's ok... the dark has many faces you can't see..

we had the same problem our opening night but now we have made it very clear that you scare the owner and all other staff on ever pass through unless they are waving you off.

Anyone comes through my scene gets the scare of a life time. Even our support staff they usually shove a water bottle into my hand to calm me down and allow them to pass safely The only exception as an actor are situations like the one I had the other night. We had a small kid and the parent (why he brought that little child through the haunt is beyond me.) the kid was so frightened I could hear him crying from the other scene. I toned down my usual routine and still delivered my lines and was menacing to the adult only. I want the kid to enjoy the haunt not be tramatized mentally for life.

Our owner will come through with regular groups we never break character because it ruins the illusion. if your actors are breaking character you need to talk to them.

It doesn't help that all of our actors are volunteer high schoolers! :/ We had dress rehearsals this past Sunday and we kept doing dry-runs but the kids were just horrible. I'm having a crash-course in acting before we open this weekend. GOOD GRIEF!! Some kids have got it...others just DON'T

p.s. -- most of these kids are supposed to be Drama students?!!

I used to sneak thru all the time at my old haunt. Change clothes and blend in with a group... sneak around behind the scenes.... watch and listen.....you should be able to get a good read on what the crew is doing

My Wife & I scare the employees!
She will come up with a costume keep it secreted away, then dress up in it and surprise them with it. It also helps us see just what they will do if a mysterious customer ever was in the place as they should not be.
Once I amazed myself being able to physically pull myself straight up into some small rafters and then pluck the bowler derby from an employee as he passed beneath. He screamed and dropped straight down to the floor! And he is a BIG guy! All infront of another employee!(Audiences are good )

The best luck i had was following a group, then hiding just outside the scene, either in the hallway or fire exit. I fealt that the point wasn't to try to scare me, but make sure the customers got a good show.

Ugh that kills me. I dont really care if its just me walking thru checking on everyone. But when I'm with a group, and they break character or goof off because I'm there makes me feel bad for the group. I have actually given groups a refund because of that. And allowed them a second time to walk through. I hate knowing even one group went through and our actors didn't give them 110%%!
