I use email to the whole group. That way I can hit everyone at the same time, and all of my actors check their email daily. It also helps me manage my time, as I can check my email twice a day (once in the morning and once at night) and get any issues identified without having to stop what I am doing during the day to take care of actor issues.

Do you think there would be interest if there was an all in one app that would allow your volunteers to sign up and select the date they can work, allow you to mass send out texts to your volunteers and record their responses? It would also would allow you to show all your actors and assign them to your rooms and give you a list of the contacts emergency contact info.
That's actually one of the new backstage features were currently developing for our HauntApps.com service. We will be releasing more info about it as we get closer to TransWorld
We use a great free text message site that is mainly for Teachers called Remind 101, you can schedule messages as well. It seems to be our best option so far. We also send emails and have a Facebook group.
If you went to the show in St Louis you probably saw my booth HauntScheduler. HauntScheduler is a very affordable solution that does just about every aspect of scheduling, communication, and management of your actors/staff. We go a lot of feedback from the show and have a lot of wanted improvements on the way. Please check us out as I can personally guarantee that this will make managing your actors a heck of lot easier.
