ABOUT "Sandy River Farms Corn Maize"
Thanks for the 2013 support of the Maize!
Building on our success for the past four years, Sandy River Farms will again be hosting an “Amazing Maize” on a ten acre corn field south of the farm at 755 Farmington Falls Road. The Maize is a series of paths cut into the cornfield and will provide ample fun for young and old. In addition to the maize, the annual “Pick your own Pumpkin” patch will be adjacent to the Maize field with an old-fashioned hayride between the two. We have thousands of pumpkins in all shapes and sizes...come and get your Jack-o-lantern for Halloween!
The 2013 Corn Maize highlights the 150th anniversary of the founding of the University of Maine, Farmington. The York family is pleased to celebrate this significant milestone for an important member of the Farmington community.
The Corn Maize will cost $8.00 for adults and children over age 10 and $4.00 for children younger than 10. Children under 3 will be free. Cost also includes a free hayride, petting zoo of farm animals, an obstacle course and corn box. Credit cards are not accepted. Cash or local checks will be accepted.
The Maize will be open from 10-4 on weekends through October 27th.
We are pleased to join with the New Sharon Fire Department and Auxiliary who will host our Haunted Maize this year!
The Haunted Maize will be open from 6-10pm on:
October 30 and 31
There will be coffee, hot chocolate and treats for sale! A great way to support our local fire department.
The Maize will close on rainy days. Check the website for last minute rain closures.
No pets or alcohol are allowed in the Maize.
Other fun activities include a corn box for the little ones to play in (think sand box with corn), an obstacle course for kids to run and play on and a food concession stand with homemade goodies as well as hamburgers, hot dogs and fries for a “picnic in the cornfield.” Pumpkins will cost 35¢ per pound.
The eight car "Cow Train" will be available again this year. Rides are $2.00 per person for young or old alike.

Sandy River Farms Produce Stand
Thank you to our valued patrons this past summer. Please shop at the Sandy River Farm Market across from the farm on Route 2 for our locally grown produce.
Each summer beginning around the last week in July or the first week in August and continuing through September, Sandy River Farms provides a vegetable stand at the corner of Maple Avenue and Main Street near the Farmington Fire Station on Route 2. The mainstay of the Vegetable Stand is freshly picked sweet corn grown on the rich soil along the Sandy River. When available, cucumbers, organic tomatoes, apples and squash are also sold. The Stand is open Monday thru Saturday from 9:30-5pm. Our fresh produce can be purchased at the Farm Market on Sundays.
Our Farm Market is also open until 6pm and carries the same products you will find at the Stand. The Market is directly across from the dairy farm on Route 2 and has lots of our farm grown products available including freshly processed milk, homemade ice cream and other vegetables and fruit in season.
Organic Milk
Sandy River Farms is proud of its legacy of raising excellent nationally recognized Milking Shorthorn under the tutelage of Brenda York who brought the first Shorthorns to the farm in 1963 from her childhood farm, Voter Hills Farm also in Farmington. With the addition of registered Holsteins, the farm has a herd of 80 milk cows with another 65 head of young stock. They sell bull calves when available, mostly in the late spring and summer. Call the farm for the availability of steer calves.
Sandy River Farms also bottles and sells organic unprocessed milk at the farm which can be purchased anytime by stopping by the farm. The cooler in the milkhouse is always stocked with gallons of whole and skim milk at the cost of $5.00 per gallon. Fresh eggs are also available for $2.50 a dozen.
