About Us: Overview
Trunnell's Farm Market & Family Fun Acre combines fresh produce, education, and entertainment - all wrapped into one "Homegrown Family Fun" experience. The Trunnell Farm is over 1,600 acres and is a working farm that produces crops such as corn, wheat, hay, soybeans, pumpkins, and vegetables. Not only do we offer fresh produce at our market, but we also provide opportunities for families and groups to explore our farm, learn about where their food comes from, and to have fun with the many attractions in our Family Fun-Acre.
Farm Market
Sweet Corn continues to be the specialty item customers have come to expect from Trunnell's Farm Market. Sweet corn is picked daily from mid June thru the first of October from approximately 25 strategically planted acres. White, Yellow, and Peaches-n-Cream sweet corn offer a variety for everyone.
A 2-acre mixed garden also provides fresh picked daily green beans, tomatoes, peppers, squash, zucchini, cabbage, cucumbers, eggplant, potatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon and much more. Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, peaches, and apples are freshly picked by local growers and offered in the market during that season.
Pumpkins and gourds are the other specialty that Trunnell's is known for. Pumpkins of all shapes and sizes along with 15 different gourds and mini gourds can be found abundantly in September and October.
Trunnell's Farm Market is owned and operated by Kevin Trunnell and his family. Kevin is the fourth generation to farm the land located near Utica, KY. Currently Kevin and his father Edward work together to raise crops.
While the Trunnell Farm has been in the family for four generations, Trunnell's Farm Market began in 1990 when Kevin planted 1 acre of sweet corn and sold it in the front yard out of the back of his truck.
In 1993, as the business grew, sales of sweet corn and tomatoes were moved to an old tobacco barn on the property. A simple lean-to shed was built on the side of the barn facing the road. Each year more acres and a variety of vegetables were added. Pumpkins, mums, and other fall decoration items were added in 2000.
The early spring of 2006 brought a storm that damaged the old tobacco barn and lean-to beyond repair. The 2006 and 2007 seasons were handled by using a temporary tent to house and sell produce. Construction on the new market building began in September 2007, with a grand opening in June 2008.
In 2009, Trunnell's Farm Market expanded to include a new Family Fun Acre, designed to provide education and fun for families and groups. - Winter Hours are Jan 1 thru March 31.
