In 1986 McCurdyville's first campground opened amid much fanfare. The state-of-the-art campground was marveled for its modern amenities. The action packed adventure park opened the same day. Touting itself as the place to come with something for everyone, it offered a themed miniature golf course, a maze, and a mysterious fun house. At first, the campground was completely full every day, then, rumors about a crazed groundskeeper, missing campers, and bizarre behaviors began to emerge. The rumors quickly spread. The owner of the campground, Leon Wassnar, desperately tried to deny the rumors, but soon the campground was virtually empty. It was not long before the campground and adventure park were forced to close. Some blamed the notorious McCurdyville serial killer, Earl Swanson. This has not stopped thrill seeking adventurers from coming to the abandoned campground and adventure park, daring each other to try to survive the night. McCurdyville Campground sits abandoned... or maybe not...
