THE ASYLUM: "As darkness falls on Bedlam, the nightmare within the walls comes alive. The unfortunates left to suffer under the supervision of a demented madman, have lost touch with reality. Their nightmares and fears are brought to life by the Doctor, to toy with their emotional state. After years of experimentation, brutal treatments, and isolation, these residents are eager for visitors… for new blood!" DO NOT MISS OUT on this AMAZING haunted house in Weston, West Virgina in Lewis County, WV. This is THE SCARIEST haunted house in all of West Virginia and beyond, and the history behind THE ASYLUM is truly haunting! The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, constructed between 1858 and 1881, is the largest hand-cut stone masonry building in North America. The original hospital, THE WESTON STATE HOSPITAL, was designed to house 250. It opened its doors to patients in 1864. In the 1950's, nearly 2,400 patients overcrowded the hospital causing generally poor conditions. Changes in the treatment of mental illness and the physical deterioration of the facility forced its closure in 1994 inflicting a devastating effect on the local economy, from which it has yet to recover.
