Kansas Haunted Houses

The town of Wichita is known for many haunting  tales and a history of all it's own.  One being  Wichita's Thearosa's Bridge, it has been given the title of Wichita's most thrilling event to ever happen.  When Wichita was first being settled a woman names Thearosa  lived near the bridge along with her children.  The legend is told that eventually Theatosa killed all of her children and then she killed herself.  Today, it is said that she haunts the bridge.  No matter what the weather is in town, the weather by the bridge is always different.  It is always cold and if you do choose to visit the area it is said a very strange and errie feeling is felt.  The bridge has been set on fire several times.  The bridge still stands to this day.

Kansas Haunted Legend - The Woman in the River

On one of the steepest and most dangerous hills in a small Kansas town, there is a well-known street known as Atchison Street. Once upon a time, the street was a place where the river ferry docked at the end of its journey. This street is well-known because at the top of the hill are two of the town’s first and fanciest hotels. Many visitors have been to this hill and visited the area. These visitors are the reason that we still have the legend of the woman in the river.

There once was a woman who was traveling through the area on her stagecoach. The stagecoach went down the well-known steep and dangerous hill when suddenly the horses pulling the stagecoach became spooked and started running down the hill. As the speed continued to increase, the woman knew she was in trouble.

The horses were able to wiggle their way free out of the hitches, but unfortunately the buggy continued to fly down the hill with increasing speed. As the buggy reached the end of the hill it flew into the middy Missouri River and sank. Since the buggy flipped, the woman was unable to get out in time. People assumed that she died, but there was never proof as her body was never found.

Since that night, men who walk along the Missouri River near the same hill where the accident occurred hear the screams of a woman. They feel a strong force that seems to call them into the river and a voice that calls for help. Many believe that this force is the woman’s ghost. It is believed that she desperately seeks a companion to share eternity with under the water.

A handful of men have died over the years because they became mesmerized by the voice and the force of the woman. They simply walked straight in to the river as if they had no control over their actions. The bodies of these men are always found and their ghosts are nowhere in sight – meaning the woman will always and forever be on the lookout for a companion.

Thetown of Topeka is the state capitol of Kansas and is known for many haunting  tales and a history of all it's own.  One being  the Kansas State Capitol Building located in Topeka, Kansas.  This five floor beautifully constructed building has always been knows as the peoples building.  It is also known for it's 10 death that occured during the construction of the building, 9 men and 1 women.  To this day there have been several reports of strange noises and heppenings coming from the capitol building.  People have reported hearing footsteps and crying in the basement where one of the bodies landed in one of the deaths.

Topeka is also home to some of the most frightning place to be seen.  This brings us to Harrison Church located in Topeka, Kansas.  It is Topeka's most haunted and frightening church as told by many of the residents of Topeka.  Originally constructed in the late 1800's.  This church is said to be one of the most haunted places in Kansas. This church was a normal church until one-day possessed by the Devil and is now abandoned. People have reported they hear screams and a little girl crying.  It is not certain how or when the church became haunted, but whatis for sure is that it is.  The multiple reports of strange noises, screams and errie feeling when you pass by are just too many to count.

In additional there are many ghost tours, and other real haunted house places throughout Kansas.  Find the best haunted houses and more here at
